Shane O’Brien: Creator
My Final Year Project is based on an idea I had as a seventeen year old art student in school, when I created my character Chloe Dawkins. I designed and slowly thought up her character to make her a Superhero going by the name as Dragon Queen.
Her real name is Chloe Henrietta Dawkins, a rebellious young woman who transferred to a new school because she kept getting into fights in her previous school. In her new school she finds a talisman with a soul of a dragon. The dragon’s soul in the talisman merges with her soul, turning her into a half human half dragon hybrid hero called Dragon Queen.
For years I thought up the character, the setting and the lore of Chloe Dawkins Dragon Queen. My hope was to make a comic of around 15 or 16 pages for my FYP. My mentors suggested that I focus more on redesigning Chloe Dawkins. My FYP became more about changing the concept of my project, the art, the drawings of her facial features, her hair and her body type. I set about recreating Chloe Dawkins to try to give her a more innovative design. I set about this recreation with new drawings of Chloe, to include suggestions from my mentors, with a focus on giving her a design that shows more of her character, personality and her supernatural powers.
